If you’ve been following Shakira and Gerard Pique’s break-up, then you know it is one of the most talked-about topics at the moment, as the Colombian singer’s song with Bizarrap, ‘BZRP Music Sessions #53,’ in which she targets her ex and his mother has climbed to the top of the charts. The former couple who separated last summer, have been in an ugly back forth over allegations, the former FC Barcelona star was cheating.

The first inkling that was something was brewing from Shakira’s camp arrived last week when planes were flown over both Miami and Mar del Plata in Argentina, trailing a message that teased a January 11 release date and the words: “A she-wolf like me, it’s not for dudes like you.”

Shakira’s home in Barcelona is right next to that of Pique’s mother and the singer’s new hit has been blaring loudly from the residence these past few days. As if that wasn’t a sign that the Grammy winning artist was over her ex-MIL, someone at the residence placed a witch mannequin on the terrace of her home, pointing it directly at her former in-laws home.

But that wasn’t the only hint that the song was a total diss to her ex.

In the track Shakira sings,  “So much talk of being a champion / And when I needed you, you gave me the worst version of you,” Shakira sung over the Bizarrap-produced beat in the video, addressing the camera with each pointed barb. “I was out of your league, that’s why you’re with someone just like you.”

It was quite apparent who Shakira was addressing, with various outlets and observers noting how Piqué had recently begun a relationship with a 23-year-old woman, Clara Chía. “I’m worth two 22-year-olds,” the singer declared. “You swapped a Ferrari for a Twingo / You swapped a Rolex for a Casio.

In September of 2022, while speaking to Elle Magazine, Shakira claimed that she was forced to “sacrifice” her career for the sake of Pique’s, as well as so she could be with the couple’s children, but that he hadn’t been willing to do the same for her.

Opening up on the “darkest time” of her life, Shakira said some of the details of the split were still “too private to share… everything is so raw and new”.

She said that she had lived a “nomadic life” before her children started school, constantly traveling between Colombia, the US, and Spain.

When she and Pique’s firstborn son Milan was just two months old, Shakira said she even took him to the US while she was a judge on “The Voice”, breastfeeding him on set.

But when Milan started school in late 2014, she said: “My career had to be put in second gear.”

She went on: “I knew that when he started school I had to settle down, plant roots in Barcelona, and be there for him and for Gerard and then later on for Sasha as well.

“As a soccer player, he [Pique] wanted to play football and to win titles and I had to support him.”

Referring to the “sacrifice”, she added: “Either he [Pique] would stop his contract with Barcelona and move to the US with me, where my career is, or I would have to do that instead.”

She also implied that she had been the one making the “effort” in the relationship.

“One of the two had to make that effort and that sacrifice,” she said. “And I did it. I put my career in second gear and I came to Spain, to support him so he could play football and win titles.”

She described her actions as a “sacrifice of love”.

The embroiled exes, were together for 11 years, and share 2 children, Sasha, 9, and Milan,7.  While it was reported that Shakira had planned to move to Miami, after the nasty split, taking the kids with her, due to unknown circumstances, the songstress stayed in Barcelona at least temporarily, and has been living next door to her ex in-laws, awkward!
