During the season 19 premiere of American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie were instantly blown away by the current front running contestant, Grace Kinstler. She delivered a rendition of the Gladys Knight $ the Pips “Midnight Train to Georgia” and then was asked to continue on with another song. She followed up with Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Maybe it was the energy in the room or Katy Perry’s inspiring speech beforehand when she said “The legend that is Carole King wrote it, the legend that is Aretha Franklin sang it, you need to sing it like the legend you want to be. Tall order. Don’t phone it in; make me feel it. Sing ‘Natural Woman’ to me like I never heard it before.” And she most definitely did because she left the judges with the jaws on the ground and a golden ticket in her hands.
