When the latest season of 90 Day Fiancé began fans were introduced to Brandon, who met Julia through a friend, and over the course of five months and meeting each other in person twice, they decided to get engaged. While Julia was used to the city life in Russia, Brandon was more of a suburban/rural kind of dude — his family owns a farm after all in Virginia. But viewers quickly learned that wasn’t the most shocking thing to come out of their story.

During the premiere things took an uncomfortable turn when Brandon and his parents had a candid chat about practicing safe sex with his fiancé, Julia once she arrived in the states. As Brandon and his parents prepared for her arrival, which entailed setting up a room that she would have to herself, his parents do not want them shacking up together, his parents had “the talk” with the 27-year-old.

His mother, Betty, asked whether his fiancé uses contraception. “Do you know if she’s on birth control, by chance?” Betty inquired while Brandon replied, “Yea, no, she’s not.”
