The 49ers badly needed a win over the Rams on Sunday night. They played their best game of the year and emerged with a victory to move to 3-3, stay in the thick of the playoff race, and get their first home win of the year.
San Francisco’s offense stagnated with Raheem Mostert out, but Jimmy Garoppolo executed the game plan well enough early to put up 21 in the first half. The 49ers’ defense did an outstanding job in coverage, too. Their pass rush struggled badly, but the secondary made life very difficult on Rams QB Jared Goff.
