During his time with SJC, Gants heard arguments over the aftermath of the drug lab scandal involving former state chemists Annie Dookhan and Sonja Farak, the role of federal immigration agents in Massachusetts courthouses and multiple lawsuits over the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gants was not present at a hearing Friday involving a lawsuit challenging the Baker administration’s executive orders, but he was planning to participate in forming the decision, his colleagues said that morning.
